Kauai is the oldest of the main Hawaiian Islands, located northwest of Oahu. It is known for places like Nā Pali Coast, Glass Beach, Waimea Canyon, Hanalei Bay, Hanalei Valley and many more. A possible translation of Kauai is “place around the neck”. It refers to the legend of Hawaiiloa, the Polynesian navigator, who is said to be the discoverer of the Hawaiian Islands. As the story goes he named the island after his favourite son and the place around the neck is where a father would carry his favourite child.
