Cape Byron is located on Australia’s east coast in the state of New South Wales. It is the easternmost point of the mainland of Australia. British explorer Captain James Cook named Cape Byron to honour British Explorer John Byron. The lighthouse there is called Cape Byron light and was built in 1901. Right next to Cape Byron one can find Byron Bay, which is a popular surfing spot.
