Gmunden is a town located on the north shore of the lake Traunsee in Upper Austria, Austria. It has over 13.000 inhabitants and is mainly known for the green-white painted pottery called “Gmundner Keramik” and a castle named “Schloss Ort”. The latter was founded around 1080 by Hartnidus of Ort. Schloss Ort is widely known for a TV-Series called “Schlosshotel Orth”, which was shot at this location from 1996 to 2004. Gmunden is also known as health resort and was named “Kurstadt” (German for spa town) in 1862. Lake Traunsee, however, is the deepest lake in Austria and a popular destination for angler and diver. As the lake and therefore Gmunden are surrounded by mountains, it is also a great starting point for some great hikes. Though it isn’t even necessary to hike up a mountain to get a great view of Gmunden as it is possible to climb Gründberg by cable car and Gmundnerberg even by car.
