Next to New Zealand State Highway 94, which connects the large Southland town of Gore with Milford Sound, at The Divide Shelter is the starting point for the hike to Key Summit. With 532 metres above sea level The Divide is the lowest east-west-pass of the Southern Alps. The first section of the hike is part of the Routeburn Track. Therefore it is also possible to do this hike as a short side trip of it. At Key Summit one can enjoy gorgeous views of the Fiordland National Park with its snowcapped mountains.
