Kvernufoss falls is a hidden gem not far away from Skógafoss waterfall. While hundreds of tourists visit its bigger neighbour, Kvernufoss waterfall is most of the time overlooked. Therefore one can have this picturesque waterfall all to oneself. But there are more similarities between Seljalandsfoss and Kvernufoss as there are between Kvernufoss and its famous neighbour. The major reason is that one can walk behind Kvernufoss as well.

The short hike through the gorge to the waterfall is a real joy as one can experience a stunning combination of vegetation, rocks and palagonite cliffs. The only tricky thing is that the way to the falls is not signposted. To get there one should park in front of Skógar Museum and start walking east (looking to the main road Skógafoss is right and east is left). After a few minutes walking, there will be a fence but there will also be a stile. After crossing the fence an almost unworn path is leading to the gorge where at the end one will find Kvernufoss.
