Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil is known as the world capital of prehistory. The reason, therefore, is that several prehistoric sites were found there. Many of them are listed as UNESCO world heritage sites. Examples for the sites in Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil are the “Abri de Cor-Magnon” – the site where the Cro-Magnon was found, “Gisement de la Macaque” – a site with many examples for stone cutting in the Old Stone Age and “Laurie Basse” – a cave that was used as a prehistoric dwelling place. Nowadays the commune of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil is home to over 800 people and is visited by tourists all over the world.
