Wanaka is located in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand. Situated at the southern end of Lake Wanaka it is the gateway to Mount Aspiring National Park. Great hikes as those to Roys Peak and Rob Roy Glacier can be easily reached from there. At about 7.400 people call Wanaka their hometown. Even if the weather is bad there are great things to do. Going to the local cinema, where one can enjoy the movies whilst sitting on a couch, or visiting Puzzling World where one will learn that one’s eyes can’t always be trusted. First named Pembroke it was renamed Wanaka in 1940.
