Budapest is the capital of Hungary and almost two million people call it their hometown – that’s every fifth person in Hungary. Therefore it is not only the most populous city in Hungary but also one of the most densely populated cities in Europe. Before Budapest became the capital of Hungary the city of Esztergrom was its capital. For many people, Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Popular sights are, for example, Buda Castle, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Parliament and many more. The Parliament is the third largest Parliament building in the world. Furthermore, Budapest is the capital with the most thermal springs in the world.

In the first place, the parts of Budapest on each side of the Danube were different cities called Buda and Pest. There is also an island between those two sides called Shipyard Island or Hajógyári sziget in Hungarian. This island is home to one of the largest music festivals in the world with more than 400.000 visitors.
